Uni Trac Installation

Updated this week

The Uni Trac is a data acquisition device designed for industrial environments. It must be installed close to the sensors it will monitor, with proper positioning to ensure stable radio-frequency communication with the Receiver. This article provides a step-by-step guide for correct installation, including mounting methods, electrical requirements, and platform registration.

Step-by-step guide for installing the Uni Trac

Step 1: Choosing the installation location

  • Make sure the location is accessible, safe, and close to the sensors that will be monitored.

  • The Uni Trac must not be installed inside metal panels or enclosed boxes, as this compromises radio-frequency communication with the Receiver.

  • Prefer open and elevated locations with the fewest possible obstacles between the device and the Receiver.

Step 2: Mounting the Uni Trac

Choose one of the mounting methods according to the environment:

Option 1: Magnetic mount

  • Ideal for flat metal surfaces.

  • Clean the surface thoroughly before mounting to ensure proper adhesion.

Option 2: Plastic cable ties

  • Used on non-metallic structures, rails, or profiles.

  • Use cable ties up to 10 mm wide.

  • Make sure the Uni Trac is firmly secured and properly positioned.

Step 3: Check the need for external power supply

  • Check the type of sensor that will be connected to the Uni Trac:

    • PNP, 4–20 mA, 0–10 V, I2C, and RS-485 sensors require an external 24 Vdc power supply.

    • NPN sensors (pulse counting mode) can operate without external power.

Step 4: Perform the electrical connection

  • Before connecting, use a multimeter to validate the voltage values of the cables.

  • Use proper terminals and tools (crimping pliers) to ensure professional finishing and secure connections.

Step 5: Register the Uni Trac on the platform

  • Take a photo of the installed Uni Trac with the device ID clearly visible.

  • Access the Tractian platform and register the Uni Trac on the corresponding asset.
