Connecting and disconnecting Energy Trac

Updated this week

This article is intended for customers using the Energy Trac sensor in industrial environments and who need to configure its network connection.

Connecting Energy Trac

Before starting the network configuration, install the external antenna in a high and unobstructed location, preferably outside metallic electrical panels, to ensure optimal signal quality.

For detailed instructions on mounting and positioning, refer to the Energy Trac installation article.

Connecting to the cellular network

Once powered, the Energy Trac will automatically attempt to connect to the best available 3G/4G mobile network in the area. This process begins approximately one minute after powering on.

During this first minute:

  • The sensor creates a temporary Wi-Fi network, which can be used for manual Wi-Fi configuration if preferred.

  • The LED indicator will display different colors to show the connection status.

Connecting to Wi-Fi

If you prefer to use an industrial Wi-Fi network instead of a cellular connection, follow these steps:

  1. Power on the sensor and wait 10 seconds until the LED shows a white light.

  2. Within the first 60 seconds, search for a Wi-Fi network beginning with TRACTIAN-, followed by a unique 12-digit code.

  3. Connect to this network using a smartphone, tablet, or computer. A configuration window will open automatically.

  4. Fill in the required fields:

    • SSID (network name)

    • Password

    • In most cases, select DHCP and WPA Personal

    • If using Static IP or WPA Enterprise, complete all additional fields

  5. Click “Save and Exit” to finish the configuration.

If your company's Wi-Fi has firewalls, make sure to authorize:

  • The sensor's MAC Address

  • Tractian's server IP: conveyor.tractian.com, port TCP/IP 8080

Disconnecting Energy Trac

If you need to disconnect the sensor from the current Wi-Fi network, either to connect it to a new one or allow it to use cellular data, follow these steps:

  1. Unplug the Energy Trac, wait a few seconds, then reconnect it.

  2. After 10 seconds, the LED should turn white.

  3. Join the temporary TRACTIAN-XXXXXXXXXXXX Wi-Fi network again.

  4. The configuration interface will open. Click “Edit”, delete all saved information, and leave all fields blank.

  5. Click “Save”.

  6. Wait 1 minute for the sensor to automatically connect to the best available cellular network. You can monitor the connection through the LED indicator.

Connecting to another Wi-Fi network

If you only want to switch to a different Wi-Fi network:

  1. First follow the disconnection procedure to clear the previous configuration.

  2. Then, repeat the manual Wi-Fi connection steps outlined earlier.
