Installation of the Energy Trac Energy Sensor

Your Energy Trac arrives at your facility already configured to monitor the current and voltage of your equipment. Just follow the steps below to install it and then activate it.

Start by using the magnetic mounting brackets of the Energy Trac to position it on the DIN rail of the electrical panel or another metal surface.

Example of Energy Trac installation

Precautions

  • Electrical circuits can cause serious accidents. Always ensure the supervision of a qualified professional;

  • Use appropriate protective equipment: goggles, insulated gloves, and rubber shoes;

  • Do not install the device in locations with an ambient temperature exceeding 140°F;

  • Do not clean the device with solvents such as Ketones, Hydrocarbons, Ethers, or Esters;

  • Do not expose the device to water or areas with a high accumulation of solid particles (dust);

  • Do not subject the device to mechanical impacts, drops, crushing, or excessive friction.

Positioning of the Energy Trac

The sensor should be connected to the power supply of the equipment it will monitor, preferably after the protection circuit breaker.

The Energy Trac is not resistant to dust or water, so choose a protected location for positioning and installation.

We recommend positioning the Energy Trac antenna outside the panel, fixed on a rigid surface, preferably non-metallic.

Current Sensor: Installation of the Energy Trac current clamps

The sensor calculates the electric current through current transformers (CT), whose clamp model varies depending on the current value flowing through the wire.

The models are split, so it is not necessary to open the circuit to install the sensor.

First, check if the orientation of the clamps is suitable for the current flow.

Connect the other end of the CT to the Energy Trac before connecting it to the cable. Otherwise, the machine may be damaged.

The following images show the installation of the clamps in functional systems.

Voltage Sensor: Installation of the Energy Trac voltage cables

There are four individually indicated wires on the sensor for the phases and neutral. They should be connected in parallel to the power supply to measure the voltage of the monitored equipment.

For three-phase circuits, connect cables A and B or A, B, and C to the respective busbars of interest.

Make sure to use the current clamp on the same phase as the voltage. In all cases, ensure the connection of the N cable to the appropriate neutral busbar.

Important note: The maximum supported voltage is 480V between phases or 277V between phase and neutral.

If the circuit's neutral is not available, it can be replaced by the ground. However, this may trigger protection devices. In such cases, contact the TRACTIAN support team, which will assist you in the installation process.

Next we will see how the cables are installed to measure voltage in functional systems.

Communication: Installation of the external antenna

Install the external antenna of the Energy Trac sensor in a high location, preferably outside of metal electrical panels.

Behind the antenna, there is an adhesive tape. We recommend that you attach the antenna to the chosen surface using the tape to ensure a more effective installation.
