Creating custom categories in the Tractian platform helps better organize work orders, separate maintenance types, and generate more accurate reports. This guide walks you through the full process of creating and configuring a new category.
Accessing the Category tab
Log in to the Tractian platform;
In the upper-right corner, click your name;
In the menu, select Settings;
In the left-side panel, click "Work Orders";
Select the Category option.
You’ll be taken to the page where all registered categories are listed.
Adding a New Category
Click "+ Add Category";
Fill in the following fields:
Name: Choose a clear, descriptive name for the category.
Examples: Electrical Maintenance, Lubrication, Visual Inspection.Description: Add supporting information about the type of service or its usage context.
Color: Select a color to visually distinguish this category in work orders and reports.
Priority: Classify the category’s criticality level according to your operation.
These settings are useful for task prioritization and operational analysis.
Additional Settings
The options below directly impact Tractian’s reports and metrics:
Include in KPI Calculation
Enable this to include the category in the following indicators:
Availability;
Reliability;
MTBF (Mean Time Between Failures);
MTTR (Mean Time to Repair);
MTTA (Mean Time to Acknowledge).
Set as Corrective
Check this if the category represents corrective maintenance. It will affect the "Preventive vs Corrective" indicator in reports.
Set as Preventive
Check this if the category represents preventive maintenance. It will also be reflected in the "Preventive vs Corrective" reports.
Important note: “Corrective” and “Preventive” cannot be selected at the same time.
Once all fields are filled, click "Save."
The new category will be added to the list and available immediately for use in work orders.
Managing Existing Categories
You can edit any registered category at any time. Simply go to the tab, select the desired category and click "Edit" to update the name, color, priority, or metric settings.
To delete a category, simply click the three dots next to the Edit button.
