What Is This Spreadsheet For?
This spreadsheet lets you manage the hierarchy of assets and locations in TRACTIAN. Use it to register new assets and locations, organize them into a tree structure, assign responsible users and teams, and configure technical details like equipment type and criticality.
Can I Import, Export, or Both?
Import (upload data into TRACTIAN): Yes
Export (download data from TRACTIAN): Yes

Columns in Detail
ID (Fill only for update)
The unique identifier assigned by TRACTIAN. When you export, this is filled automatically. Only enter it when updating an existing asset or location. Leave blank to create a new one.
Name
The name of the asset or location. For example: "Pump Station A", "Building 3", "Motor #12". Names must be unique within the same parent path.
Type
Choose whether this item is an asset (a piece of equipment) or a location (a place like a building, floor, or area). This determines how it appears in the tree.
asset — A piece of equipment that can be monitored
location — A physical place that contains assets or other locations
Parent Path
The full path showing where this item sits in the tree hierarchy. Use
//to separate each level. For example:Plant A//Building 1//Floor 2means this item will be placed inside "Floor 2", which is inside "Building 1", which is inside "Plant A". If the parent path does not exist, the system will try to match it to existing items.
Path Delimiter
If your names contain
//, you can use a different separator. For example, set this to>>and then write paths likePlant A>>Building 1>>Floor 2. If left blank,//is used by default.
Equipment Type
The type of equipment for this asset. Choose from the dropdown, which lists all equipment types configured for your company. This only applies to assets, not locations.
Criticality Name
The criticality level for this asset (e.g., "High", "Medium", "Low"). Choose from the dropdown, which lists all criticality levels configured for your company.
Assigned Emails
Enter the email addresses of users responsible for this asset or location. Separate multiple emails with semicolons. The system will match each email to a user account automatically.
Assigned Teams
Enter the names of teams responsible for this asset or location. Separate multiple team names with semicolons.
Sensor ID, Fixation Type, Axial Direction
These columns are filled automatically when you export. They show sensor configuration data. You do not need to fill these in — they are for reference only.
Custom Fields
This spreadsheet can include extra columns based on the custom fields your company has configured. These appear to the right of the standard columns and may include: dropdown selections, numbers, text, currency amounts, and dates.
Tips for a Successful Import
Every row must have a Name and a Type (asset or location).
The Parent Path tells the system where to place the item in the tree. Make sure the path matches existing items exactly.
Locations cannot be placed inside assets — only inside other locations or at the root level.
Names must be unique within the same parent. You cannot have two items with the same name under the same parent.
The Equipment Type and Criticality Name dropdowns only accept values that are already configured in your company.
To update an existing item, include its ID. To create a new one, leave the ID blank.
Sensor ID, Fixation Type, and Axial Direction are export-only — you cannot import these values.
Example Rows
ID | Name | Type | Parent Path | Equipment Type | Criticality Name | Code |
Plant A | location | PLT-A | ||||
Pump Station | location | Plant A | PS-01 | |||
Centrifugal Pump #1 | asset | Plant A//Pump Station | Centrifugal Pump | High | CP-001 |
Frequently Asked Questions
What happens if the parent path doesn't exist?
The system will try to match the path to existing items. If it cannot find a match, the import will fail for that row. Make sure all parent items exist before importing child items, or include them in the same spreadsheet above the child rows.
Can I move an asset to a different location?
Yes. Include the asset's ID and set a new Parent Path. The system will move it to the new location.
What is the difference between an asset and a location?
A location is a physical place (like a building, floor, or area). An asset is a piece of equipment (like a pump, motor, or conveyor). Locations can contain other locations and assets. Assets cannot contain locations.
Can I assign both users and teams to the same asset?
Yes. Fill in both the Assigned Emails and Assigned Teams columns. All specified users and teams will be assigned.
What happens if I leave optional columns blank when updating?
The existing values in TRACTIAN will not be changed. Only columns with values will be updated.
