Creating and Using Dashboards in the OEE Module

Learn how to create, customize, and view dashboards within the OEE module to track production metrics like Performance, Availability, and unit counts. This article is intended for supervisors, production managers, and analysts who need to build visual panels with data from their stations.

Before You Start

  • You need access to the OEE module on the Tractian platform.

  • The Stations you want to monitor must be registered and have an OEE Profile configured.

  • For data to appear in the widgets, there must be production runs recorded in the selected period.

What Are OEE Dashboards?

Dashboards are customizable panels within the OEE module that let you bring production metrics together in one place. You build the panel by choosing which widgets to display: numeric cards, column, bar, line, and pie charts, gauges, tables, and more.

Each dashboard is tied to your company and is accessible from the Dashboards tab in the OEE module navigation. You can create as many dashboards as you need (for example, one per production line, one per shift, or a consolidated one for management).

Why Use Them?

  • Quickly visualize KPIs like Performance, Availability, and quantity produced.

  • Track production trends over time using charts.

  • Compare data across different periods using the period filter.

  • Share a standardized view with your supervision team.

Accessing Dashboards

  1. In the platform's top menu, click OEE.

  2. In the OEE module's navigation bar, click the Dashboards tab.

  3. In the left side panel, you'll see the list of available dashboards. Click a dashboard name to open it.

💡 Tip: Use the Search field at the top of the side panel to quickly find a dashboard by name.

Creating a New Dashboard

  1. On the Dashboards tab, click the + button (add icon) next to the "Dashboards" title in the left side panel.

  2. In the Create Dashboard modal, fill in the fields:

    • Name: Enter a descriptive name for the dashboard. Example: "Mill 2 Dashboard," "Bottling Line — Shift A," "Overall OEE — SP Plant."

    • Image: (Optional) Click Attach File to add a background image to the dashboard. Accepted formats: image (PNG, JPG). This image appears as the dashboard's visual cover.

  3. Click Confirm.

Once confirmed, the new dashboard will be created and appear in the side panel list. It will be empty — the next step is to add widgets.

Adding Widgets to the Dashboard

Widgets are the dashboard's visual components: cards, charts, and tables. To add widgets, you need to enter edit mode.

  1. With the dashboard open, click the Edit button in the upper right corner.

  2. The screen enters edit mode. You'll see the + Add button at the bottom of the page and a General Settings panel on the right.

  3. Click + Add.

  4. A menu appears with the available widget types. Select the type you want:

Widget Type

What it shows

When to use it

Numeric Card

A featured numeric value (example: "45 units")

To display standalone KPIs like total produced, target, unit count

Column Chart

Vertical bars comparing values over time or across categories

To compare production by day, week, or across stations

Bar Chart

Horizontal bars comparing values

For rankings or comparisons across categories

Line Chart

Lines connecting data points over time

To track trends and how metrics evolve

Pie Chart

Proportional breakdown of a total

To show percentage distribution (e.g., downtime causes)

Operation Chart

A specific view of the station's operational state

To display running, downtime, and idle times

Gauge

Circular indicator with a percentage value (speedometer)

To display OEE, Performance, or Availability metrics as a percentage of target

Table

Data in row and column format

For full data breakdowns with multiple dimensions

  1. After selecting the type, configure the widget with the desired metric, station, and the parameters specific to the chosen type.

  2. Repeat steps 3 through 5 for each widget you want to add.

  3. When you're done, click Save Dashboard in the upper right corner.

Important: If you exit edit mode without clicking Save Dashboard, all changes you made (widgets added, removed, or reconfigured) will be lost. To intentionally discard changes, click Cancel.

Editing an Existing Dashboard

Changing General Settings

  1. With the dashboard open, click Edit in the upper right corner.

  2. In the General Settings panel that appears on the right, you can:

    • Dashboard Title: Change the dashboard's name.

    • Background Image: Click Attach File to add or replace the background image.

  3. Click Save Dashboard to apply the changes.

Editing Individual Widgets

In edit mode, each widget can be reconfigured. Click on the widget to access its specific settings (metric displayed, linked station, title, etc.).

To remove a widget, select it in edit mode and use the delete option available on the widget.

Filtering by Period

The data shown on the dashboard can be filtered by period. The filter affects all widgets on the dashboard simultaneously.

  1. With the dashboard open (you don't need to be in edit mode), click the Period button in the upper right corner.

  2. Select one of the preset options:

Option

Period covered

Today

Current day

This week

Current week (Monday to Sunday)

Last 7 days

7 days prior to the current day

This month

Current month

Last month

Previous full month

Last 3 months

3 months prior to the current month

Last 6 months

6 months prior to the current month

Last 12 months

12 months prior to the current month

This year

Current year

Custom

Manually set a start date and end date

  1. For a custom range, fill in the Start date and End date fields and confirm.

  2. The widgets will update automatically with data from the selected period.

💡 Tip: If a widget shows "No data available," check that the selected period covers dates when production was recorded at the monitored stations.

Interacting with Charts

On column, bar, and line charts, you can hover over a bar or point to see details about that value, including the metric name, the exact value, and the corresponding date/time.

Example: hovering over a column on the chart shows a tooltip with "Test: 3,170 — March 7, 00:00."

In the upper right corner of each chart, you'll find:

  • Table icon: Toggles the view between chart and data table.

  • Options menu (⋮): Offers additional actions on the widget (depending on the chart type).

Navigating Between Dashboards

The left side panel lists all available dashboards. To switch dashboards, click the name of the dashboard you want in the list.

Each dashboard keeps its own period filter independently. When you switch dashboards, the selected period may be different from the previous one.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I create dashboards for specific stations?

Yes. When you add widgets, you select the station or stations that feed that widget. You can build an entire dashboard dedicated to a single station or mix data from multiple stations on the same panel.

How many widgets can I add to a dashboard?

There's no fixed documented limit, but we recommend keeping the dashboard focused on no more than 8 to 10 widgets to ensure good readability and adequate load times.

Does dashboard data update in real time?

Data updates based on recorded production runs. When you reopen the dashboard or change the period filter, the most recent data is loaded. For real-time production, use the Production tab instead of Dashboards.

Can other users at my company see my dashboards?

Yes, dashboards you create are available to other users with access to the OEE module at the same company.

Can I delete a dashboard?

Yes. Open the options menu (⋮) next to the Edit button in the upper right corner of the dashboard and select the delete option. This action is irreversible.

If the issue persists, contact Tractian support.
