Floorplans: Creation and Configuration

Updated today

Use Floorplans to monitor assets visually and intuitively, group dashboards into Collections, and automatically cycle through views with Transitions.

Before You Start

  • You need access to at least one unit (plant/site) in Tractian.

  • Your visibility is limited to the units assigned to you. You will only see Collections and data for your own site.

  • To create, edit, or delete Collections and dashboards, confirm with your administrator that you have the required permissions.

What Are Collections?

Collections are folders that group related dashboards inside Floorplans. Instead of seeing a flat list of all your dashboards, you organize them into logical groups, for example, by production line, building, or equipment type.

Every dashboard in Floorplans must belong to a Collection. You cannot create a standalone dashboard outside of a Collection.

Example: A plant with three production lines might have three Collections: "Line A: Packaging", "Line B: Bottling", and "Line C: Palletizing". Each Collection contains the floorplan dashboards relevant to that area.

💡 Tip: Think of Collections as folders on your computer. They don't change your dashboards, they just make them easier to find and manage.

Accessing Floorplans

  1. Log in to the Tractian platform.

  2. In the sidebar, click the Floorplans tab.

  3. The Floorplans page opens, displaying your Collections and dashboards in a grid view.

Creating a New Collection

  1. In the top-right corner, click + Add.

  2. Select Collection from the dropdown.

  3. Enter a title for the Collection. Use a descriptive name that identifies the area or grouping (e.g., "Building 2: Utilities", "CNC Machines Area").

  4. Select the location the Collection belongs to.

  5. Click Save.

💡 Tip: Plan your Collection structure before creating them. Starting with a clear structure saves time.

Adding a Dashboard

  1. In the top-right corner, click + Add.

  2. Select Dashboard from the dropdown.

  3. Choose the type of dashboard.

  4. If the chosen type is Display, select a template as a starting point, if desired.

  5. Enter a clear, descriptive title.

  6. Select the Collection where the dashboard will be created.

  7. For the Map type, select the asset or location being represented and upload the floorplan image.

  8. Click Save.

Important: If you don't see the option to create a dashboard, check that you have editing permissions for Floorplans. Contact your administrator if needed.

Dashboard Types

When creating a dashboard, you must choose between two configurations:

Display: Shows monitoring and management variables in a customizable panel built from templates. Best suited for fixed-screen monitoring and consolidated views across multiple plants or equipment.

Map: Shows the status of assets and locations positioned over a floorplan image. Ideal for a spatial view of operations. Requires uploading a base image and selecting the asset or location being represented.

Adding Elements to a Map

After creating a Map dashboard, you can position elements over the floorplan image.

Assets

  1. In the asset tree on the left, click the desired asset.

  2. Click Asset.

  3. An icon will be added to the map. Drag it to the correct position.

  4. If needed, edit the icon to match the asset model.

Locations

  1. In the asset tree, click the desired location.

  2. Click Location marker.

  3. Click on the map to draw the area or define a point.

  4. Optional: link this location to another floorplan or an external URL.

Receivers (Gateways)

  1. Click the location where the receiver is installed.

  2. Click Receiver.

  3. Select the receiver from the list.

  4. Position the icon on the map.

Editing or Deleting a Collection

Editing a Collection

  1. On the Floorplans page, locate the Collection you want to edit.

  2. Select Edit.

  3. Update the name or settings as needed.

  4. Click Save.

Deleting a Collection

  2. Click the three-dot menu next to the Collection name.

  3. Select Delete.

  4. Confirm the deletion when prompted.

Warning: Deleting a Collection removes all dashboards inside it. This action is reflected immediately across all views and cannot be undone.

Setting Up Transitions

Transitions allow you to automatically cycle through different dashboards in sequence, ideal for fixed operation monitors.

  1. In the sidebar, click Transitions.

  2. Click + Add.

  3. Enter a name for the transition.

  4. Add a description (optional).

  5. Select the dashboards that will be part of the sequence.

  6. Set the time between transitions using the slider (Slow, Medium, or Fast).

  7. Click Save.

Filters and Settings

Available Filters

In the dashboard view, you can filter by assets, locations, receivers, status (Running, Alert, Unplanned Stop, Planned Stop, Offline), criticality, and insights (Pending, In Inspection, Checked).

You can save custom filters for recurring analyses. They will be available under My Filters.

Additional Settings

Open the settings menu (gear icon) to adjust the view:

  • Show location and asset names

  • Highlight assets in alert or unplanned stop

  • Show status legend and asset percentage by status

  • Enable sound alerts for status changes

Using Map View

Map View lets you monitor the real-time positions and status of workers at your site, directly from Floorplans.

  1. In the sidebar, click the Map View tab.

  2. The view displays personnel positions at your site.

  3. Click on a worker marker to see details such as name, current location, and status (active, idle, etc.).

Important: As a unit-level user, you only see workers and data for your assigned site.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I move a dashboard from one Collection to another?

This depends on your platform version. Try dragging the dashboard or use the dashboard's options menu to look for a "Move" option. If this is not available, you will need to recreate the dashboard in the desired Collection.

I can't see any Collections. What should I do?

Verify that you have been assigned to a unit. If you are not assigned to any unit, no Collections will be visible. Contact your administrator to check your assignment and permissions.

I deleted a Collection by accident. Can I recover it?

No. Deleting a Collection permanently removes it and all its dashboards. Contact Tractian support to check if a data recovery is possible.

Do changes I make in Floorplans affect other modules on the platform?

Yes. All changes (creating, editing, or deleting Collections and dashboards) are reflected in real time across the platform. There is no manual sync required.
