What is an Insight?
An Insight is an automatically generated alert from the Tractian platform when anomalies are detected in an asset's behavior. These anomalies indicate something is out of the ordinary and could compromise performance, safety, or equipment lifespan.
Each Insight includes:
Detected failure mode (e.g., Mechanical Looseness, Bearing Wear, Unbalance)
Failure criticality
Detection date and time
Affected asset and location
Diagnosis with quantitative data
Recommended inspection or corrective action
Viewing Insights
In the top menu, click on the "Insights" tab;
Select for which asset or location you'd like to view Insights;
Use filters to refine by date, status, assessment, or type of Insight;
Click any Insight in the list to open detailed information in the side panel;
You can switch between Panel and Table views.
Insight Status
The status shows the progress of the analysis and can be updated manually:
Pending: Insight has not yet been assessed.
In Inspection: Inspection in progress.
Check: Awaiting inspection findings.
Awaiting Check: Inspection completed, but not validated in the platform.
Insight Structure
General Information
Includes Insight name and ID, asset and location, linked inspection (if any), and current status.Measured Values
For failures like Bearing Wear, the screen shows vibration analysis metrics such as:Crest Factor
Defect Factor
K Factor
Peak-to-Peak
These values are informative; alerts are generated based on spectral analysis and configured thresholds.
Detection
Displays:Monitored parameter (e.g., BPFO – Bearing Outer Race Frequency)
Measured value and % change
Defined limit for the parameter
Analyzed axis (Axial, Vertical, Horizontal)
Date and time of detection
Prescription
A customized inspection checklist to validate the root cause. Click here for more on prescriptions. For more info on procedure creation, see this article.History
Parameter trend graphs over time, enabling trend analysis.
For Bearing Wear, typical failure frequency trends (BPFI, BPFO, BSF, FTF) are shown. Lines indicate changes across Horizontal, Axial, and Vertical axes.Harmonics
Detailed view of harmonic multiples (e.g., BPFO1, BPFO2, BPFO3, BPFO4).
Helps identify signature patterns and confirm diagnoses.Spectral Analysis
Compares:Insight spectrum (current measurement)
Average spectrum in alert
Training spectrum (healthy condition)
Available in 2D and 3D to identify peaks and harmonic patterns.
Comments and Action History
A field for notes, file attachments (images, audio, documents), and tagging teammates with @name. All history is recorded in the Insight.
Checking an Insight
Click "Check" in the Insight panel and select a conclusion:
Potential Failure
Functional Failure
Process Adjustment
Sensor Adjustment
No Failure
Dismissed(unable to determine cause)
Record your findings and click "Save" to log the check.
